Save The Date for ASC’s 37th Annual Luncheon!
Kwame Onwuachi is the James Beard Award-winning executive chef at Kith/Kin, Esquire Magazine’s Chef of the Year, and author of Notes from a Young Black Chef, published by Alfred A. Knopf. He was born on Long Island and raised in New York City, Nigeria, and Louisiana. Onwuachi was first exposed to cooking by his mother, in the family’s modest Bronx apartment, and he took that spark of passion and turned it into a career. From toiling in the bowels of oil cleanup ships to working at some of the best restaurants in the world, he has seen and lived his fair share of diversity. Onwuachi trained at the Culinary Institute of America and has opened five restaurants before turning thirty. A former Top Chef contestant, he has been named one of Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs, Esquire Magazine’s Chef of the Year, and a 30 Under 30 honoree by both Zagat and Forbes. His restaurant concept, Tatiana, opened at the Lincoln Center in November 2022. Since its opening, it has had numerous top accolades, including “The #1 Restaurant in New York City” by the New York Times, “The One to Watch” by World’s 50 Best Restaurants, and La Liste’s “World's Best Restaurants List.” In the spring of 2024, he will partner with the Salamander DC hotel to open his newest restaurant concept.
Help ASC Fundraise and Support Crossroads Community Services!
Crossroads Community Services is one of the leading hunger relief providers in Dallas. It uses a collaborative approach to revolutionize the pantry distribution model through food equity research, client-centered services, and community partner engagement. This year, ASC and Crossroads are teaming up to fund four critical capital campaigns:
A Nutrition Pharmacy that will offer food assistance to patients with co-occurring diagnoses of food insecurity and chronic health conditions. Partners at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Parkland Health, and Children’s Health will pre-screen patients for food security and provide referrals or Food Prescriptions for groceries that patients will be able to use at the new Nutrition Pharmacy.
A Culinary Medicine Teaching Kitchen where food becomes medicine. Crossroads will use its Kitchen to change the tables in our community by teaching shoppers how to prepare healthy meals with culturally relevant recipes. This new service builds on Crossroads’ service model and supports its mission to increase access to convenient, nutritious options by teaching families to prepare healthy plates. In partnership with shoppers’ healthcare plans, Crossroads will integrate nutrition education to inspire healthy eating habits, strengthening families and changing communities.
A Refrigerated Van that will help transport food inventory for referred patients from Crossroads’ main campus to the new RedBird Nutrition Pharmacy.
A Children’s Play Market that will give children shopping with their parents an opportunity to access food in a fun and safe environment.
If you are interested in sponsoring the Luncheon, please reach out to ASC’s Lead Chair, Jennifer Klein Ayers, ASC’s Co-Chair, Devon Sharp, or Crossroads’ Vice President of Development & Engagement, Cynthia Thompson.
