Attorneys Serving the Community and POETIC are thrilled to announce Elizabeth Smart as the keynote speaker for ASC’s 38th Annual Luncheon benefiting POETIC.

The abduction of Elizabeth Smart in 2002 was one of the most followed child abduction cases of our time, and her safe return to her family nine months later was celebrated by people across the country. Since that time, Elizabeth has become an advocate for change related to child abduction, sexual violence and exploitation, recovery programs, and national legislation.

The founder of the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, Elizabeth has helped promote The National AMBER Alert, The Adam Walsh Child Protection & Safety Act, and other safety legislation to help prevent abductions. She has chronicled her experiences and reflections in the New York Times best-selling book, My Story, and in her most recent book, Where There’s Hope. Together with other abduction survivors, Elizabeth worked with the Department of Justice to create You're Not Alone: The Journey From Abduction to Empowerment, a survivor’s guide for children who have gone through similar experiences. In 2022, Elizabeth’s foundation joined forces with the Malouf Foundation, and together they educate the public on how to identify victims of sex trafficking in their communities and how to discuss personal safety with children. Elizabeth’s abduction and recovery — and her impactful work as a child safety advocate — continue to motivate parents, law enforcement, and leaders worldwide to focus on children’s safety and healing.

Help ASC Fundraise and Support POETIC!

POETIC’s compelling mission is to equip girls who have experienced child maltreatment, commercial sexual exploitation, and sex trafficking to find their voices, reclaim their narratives, and persist forward. An estimated 19,000 girls are victims of sex trafficking in North Texas each year, making the work of POETIC critically important. POETIC provides a comprehensive, in-community program that includes on-site school, trauma therapy, art therapy, and paid internships – all under one roof and at no cost.

This year, ASC and POETIC are teaming up to fund three critical capital campaigns:

  • Expansion of POETIC’s Physical Space. By doubling the square footage of its facility, POETIC can double the number of youth it serves and expand the reach of its program.

  • Expansion of POETIC’s Program Staff.  Expanding POETIC’s program staff will allow POETIC to provide therapeutic and educational services to more youth. The licensed therapists, clinical case workers, and licensed educators who make up POETIC’s staff are the heart of its program.

  • Clinical Research Software. POETIC’s long-term vision is to scale and train on its innovative model as an evidence-based national best practice. The purchase and integration of more robust CRM (client relationship management) software will allow POETIC to continue and expand its sharing of trends and effective interventions nationally.

If you are interested in sponsoring the Luncheon, please reach out to ASC’s Lead Chair, Devon Sharp, ASC’s Co-Chair, Debrán O’Neil, or POETIC’s Development Director, Asia Rodgers.
